October is the national breast cancer awareness month. Having lost a sibling to cancer, I would gently like to raise awareness of this silent killer. It began with breast cancer and on her road to recovery, an unexpected hormonal change aggravated the disease. After a tough four year battle, we finally lost her in 2011 at the age of 31. This tribute of awareness is dedicated to my dear sister.
Silent Heart Breaker
A vivacious 26 year old with outstanding looks,
A wife, a mother and a genius with her books,
A teacher she was, with outstanding ability,
A strong willed and an enthusiastic personality.
It was nothing but a lump in her arm,
That caused the irreversible harm,
An unintended cancer check confirmed the fear,
And Made her realize that life was dear.
Painful surgery and endless treatment were to follow,
Losing her beautiful hair was really difficult to swallow,
She dealt with it all as a true fighter would do,
All She wanted was to live just as me and you.
Relationships strengthened, the bonds were refined,
Together we moved forward leaving negativity behind,
Tried everything possible, no stone was left unturned,
In everyone’s mind was a painful lesson learned.
Time was up, the most painful good bye ever said,
In denial we cried thinking of the life you led,
You were at peace and even in death you smiled,
It was everyone around you that cried and cried.
A father’s dream and a mother’s pride,
You were a sister’s joy and a son’s guide,
God loved you more than we ever could do,
Which is why He tests people as good as you.
Cancer discovered a little too late,
Does not know what it means to wait,
This was written to make you all well aware,
To save your family early from the cancer scare.
